Job Requirements:

  • Five or more years of machining experience directly relevant to a high-technology manufacturing environment. Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Capable of handling multiple tasks with changing priorities to meet customer needs.
  • May require specialized certification specific to division requirements (e.g., certified operator).
  • Proficient in reading, understanding, and following blueprints, complex drawings, engineering specifications, and informal written or verbal instructions.
  • Skilled in making and evaluating precision machine setups.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of advanced shop mathematics, potentially including trigonometry.
  • Proficient in implementing lean initiatives.
  • Exhibits effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills and works well within a team on research and problem-solving endeavors.
  • Possesses effective mentoring and training capabilities, serving as a resource to other team members.
  • Able to interpret reports and utilize job-specific software applications. Familiarity with employee self-service systems and specialized automated systems (e.g., PMR, TORS, email).
  • Demonstrates competence as a team member and actively participates in goal setting, performance feedback, and self-development activities.

About Key Responsibilities:

  • Efficiently operates multiple machines, sometimes concurrently, often requiring adaptation or improvisation of tooling to achieve results. This involves a broad knowledge of production machining technology, operational skills, and shop techniques based on diverse experience.
  • Sets up, adjusts, and operates a range of conventional and/or specialized 5-axis machines for highly diversified and intricate production operations. These operations may involve close tolerances, multiple dimensional relationships, unusual contours, and precise finish requirements.
  • Interprets customer requirements from a variety of sources, including blueprints, complex drawings, engineering specifications, quality directives, charts, tables, sketches, and verbal instructions.
  • Collaborates with engineering to address drawing errors, propose design changes, and resolve product/process issues.
  • Implements manufacturing methods using standard production machines, materials, and tooling and may provide advice and assistance in tooling design.
  • Performs complex setups, often involving multiple workstations, utilizing both custom and standard holding devices.
  • Develops and defines processes, even when documentation is limited.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves machining issues.
  • Maintains a high level of quality and efficiency in machining and inspecting finished parts.
  • Inspects finished parts for compliance with specifications using visual examination and precision measuring instruments such as gauges, calipers, micrometers, comparators, and surface plate techniques. May also utilize coordinate measuring machines (CMM) when required. Ensures equipment is calibrated as scheduled.
  • Regularly conducts statistical process control (SPC) as needed by the division.
  • Applies advanced shop mathematics, including trigonometry, and demonstrates a sound understanding of metal characteristics and other processing requirements.
  • Actively contributes to lean initiatives, identifying areas for improvement and effectively applying lean concepts and tools.
  • Provides guidance or assistance in managing workload priorities to accommodate changing business demands.
  • Adheres to all company policies and procedures, including safety regulations, and maintains a clean and organized work area.
  • Mentors and trains less experienced team members.
  • Performs other related responsibilities as requested.
