The GPS Manager assumes a crucial role in ensuring the timely and efficient delivery, support, and maintenance of GPS equipment necessary to maintain peak production levels in the field. This role involves conducting land surveys and constructing GPS files to determine precise locations and measurements of points, elevations, grades, lines, areas, quantities, and contours for earthwork projects, particularly in civil site development.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering (Preferred).
- 5+ years of experience working with Topcon or equivalent GPS equipment.
- Strong presentation and negotiation skills.
- Proactive with excellent problem-solving abilities.
- Willingness and ability to travel.
- Proficiency in computer skills (MS Word, MS Excel, etc.).
- Positive attitude.
- Experience with Microsoft Office.
About Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the primary point of contact for all GPS and Machine Control requirements.
- Develop and manage a GPS Equipment maintenance program.
- Utilize Topcon GPS equipment to calculate dimensions, locations, and material quantities (e.g., dirt, borrow, aggregate) to provide information for construction planning.
- Assist in the formulation of GPS Equipment budgets.
- Monitor and adhere to established budgets.
- Assist in preparing purchase orders and contracts for departmental needs.
- Allocate GPS equipment to company projects, regularly tracking their location and condition. Initiate maintenance and repair procedures for GPS hardware and software as needed.
- Ensure that field crews maintain GPS Equipment while at job sites.
- Handle vendor and subcontractor invoices for the department.
- Maintain an inventory of all departmental assets.
- Conduct periodic site visits to ensure the proper functioning of departmental assets.
- Make recommendations regarding GPS Equipment to enhance productivity and cost control.
- Implement and manage a comprehensive GPS Machine Control Training program.
- In-depth knowledge of Trimble and Topcon GPS systems is essential.
- Ability to create and provide GPS models is preferred but not required.
- The job may require travel to job sites as needed to support field operations.
