The EHS Specialist plays a critical role in providing technical support for environmental, health, and safety (EHS) initiatives within the assigned plant(s) and among personnel. This role involves evaluating EHS programs, coordinating plant activities to align with corporate and local objectives, and fostering a culture of safety and compliance. Working under the guidance of a Site EHS Manager, the EHS Specialist will oversee designated plant(s) to ensure adherence to corporate EHS policies and programs.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Safety or a STEM-related discipline preferred.
- At least one year of manufacturing experience is preferred.
- Knowledge of safety and health programs, policies, risk assessment, control strategies, and federal/state regulations is advantageous.
- Completion of the OSHA 30 course is required.
- Familiarity with auditing processes (ISO, OSHA, or equivalent guidelines) is a plus.
- Proficiency in computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications, is necessary.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are essential.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with others to achieve desired outcomes.
- Self-motivated with the capability to work independently or as part of a team with limited supervision.
- Strong leadership, motivational, and presentation abilities are required.
About Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and advocate for continuous improvement in environmental, health, and safety practices.
- Provide guidance, coaching, and support to department leaders and team members to ensure strict adherence to EHS policies and programs.
- Conduct regular facility inspections to identify and mitigate hazards that may pose risks to site personnel.
- Assist in the implementation of administrative programs for the creation, distribution, and maintenance of written documents, including safety data sheets (SDS), lockout/tagout procedures, and OSHA reporting.
- Develop site-specific work methods, Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, risk assessments, and other relevant documentation.
- Assist in managing injuries and post-accident case investigations and resolution.
- Support compliance with wastewater and stormwater regulations.
- Conduct facility inspections and audits to ensure alignment with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as site-specific permits.
- Conduct and facilitate employee training utilizing company-provided resources.
- Assist in ensuring plant compliance with the company's Process Safety Management (PSM) program.
- Maintain OSHA 300 log records.
- Support Behavior-Based Safety (BBS) programs by encouraging participation, providing critical data, and offering coaching.
- Track and report on monthly Safety Scorecard requirements as necessary.
- Undertake other job-related duties and projects as assigned.
- Comply with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) and the company's HIPAA Privacy and Security policies when assisting the company's health plan with various activities related to protected health information (PHI), including employee claims, benefit coordination, claim status determination, coverage eligibility, budgeting and renewal, billing and collection, third-party assistance for plan functions, and other duties delegated by the HIPAA Privacy or Security Officer.
