As a Senior Network Support Specialist, you will report to the Network Infrastructure & Services Coordinator. Your primary responsibility is the maintenance, support, and operation of the City’s network infrastructure, encompassing both software and hardware components.
Job Requirements:
- Possess a University Degree in Computer Science or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Demonstrate a minimum of five years of progressive work experience in information technology installation and support, typically at a Network Support Specialist level.
- Cisco certifications, such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or higher, and Microsoft certifications for network engineers are considered assets.
- Hands-on experience working with various network infrastructure products, including but not limited to Cisco routers and switches, WLAN products, firewalls, Microsoft products, Infoblox products, and network management and monitoring software.
- Proficiency in LAN/WAN infrastructure technologies such as TCP/IP, Ethernet, SD-WAN, VPNs, Wireless LANs, IP Routing protocols, First Hop Redundancy Protocols, Voice over IP, and VLANs.
- Familiarity with Cloud deployment on platforms like Azure, AWS, or Google is an asset.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively engage with stakeholders and the general public.
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills, enabling you to adapt to changing priorities and circumstances.
- Display initiative and sound judgment, especially in fast-paced and potentially stressful situations.
- Strong interpersonal skills, promoting effective teamwork and collaborative relationships with colleagues.
- Ability to provide technical guidance and mentor junior staff.
- In-depth knowledge of network architecture principles, Cloud platforms, Software Defined Networking, ITIL concepts, and network security methods and procedures.
About Key Responsibilities:
- Configure and maintain the City's routing and switching network infrastructure, covering data center, WAN, and LAN.
- Install, modify, test, and maintain network software and hardware at local and remote sites to establish a robust IT infrastructure for the City.
- Analyze and resolve system problems, ensuring that established system availability and response time objectives are consistently met.
- Offer technical consultation on systems software and hardware, utilizing your expertise.
- Conduct research on technical requirements and provide well-informed recommendations for solutions.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of the technical and operational environment.
- Direct and train junior staff members as required.
- Be available for on-call duties and occasional off-hours work as needed.
