Job Requirements:

  • A degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related field, with a minimum of two years of related experience; or a diploma along with four years of experience.
  • Proven expertise in delivering marketing and communications services, especially within the public sector.
  • At least one year of direct experience managing social media accounts.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to tailor information to different target audiences.
  • Strong analytical and strategic planning skills.
  • Proficiency in website content management systems, Google applications (including AdWords, Business, and Analytics), eNewsletters, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Sound working knowledge of content creation applications, including Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Familiarity with HTML and CSS is an asset.
  • Skills in photography and video capture and editing are beneficial.
  • Equivalencies of education and experience may be considered.

About Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Marketing and Innovation Supervisor, department managers, supervisors, and programmers to execute overarching marketing initiatives and develop program-specific strategic marketing plans that align with business goals.
  • Work closely with Graphic Design and Digital Media Specialists to create compelling marketing content that drives sales, facility visits, and online engagement.
  • Craft clear and impactful communications to promote participation and raise awareness of recreation and cultural opportunities.
  • Prioritize and delegate marketing requests to Graphic Design and Digital Media Specialists.
  • Suggest communication strategies based on audience reach, impact, and team capacities.
  • Coordinate with external print and broadcast media agencies to promote departmental programs and services.
  • Collaborate with third-party vendors to enhance department marketing tools, including digital signage, service request portal (FAME), mobile apps, and eCommerce sites.
  • Stay updated on best practices related to print, digital, and broadcast media design and communication technologies.
  • Manage content for Recreation, Parks, and Culture social media accounts.
  • Collaborate with department stakeholders to populate, proof, and adjust content on various websites and platforms.
  • Maintain content quality across print media, websites, and social media accounts, adhering to accessibility guidelines and platform standards.
  • Monitor and respond to comments, questions, and concerns across all online platforms.
  • Develop and implement communication and marketing strategies for departmental business plans, projects, and programs.
  • Identify emerging issues and opportunities and implement strategies where communication activities can contribute to departmental objectives.
  • Plan, manage, and adhere to communication and marketing budgets.
  • Drive behavior change through effective communications with target audiences.
  • Create communications, including themes, key messages, and copywriting services for a variety of mediums and audiences, particularly for special events.
  • Inform public engagement and product and service evaluation strategies to identify community needs and report results to enhance program and service delivery.
  • Provide guidance to department staff on communication and marketing-related decisions.
  • Offer support and contribute to shared corporate communication initiatives as required, such as social and digital media, branding, and other corporate initiatives.
